Sex and the City's creator is not happy with the ending

Sex and the City‘s creator Darren Star is not happy with how the show ended.

While speaking to Deadline, he said: “I think the show ultimately betrayed what it was about, which was that women don’t ultimately find happiness from marriage.”

Star explained: “Not that they can’t. But the show initially was going off script from the romantic comedies that had come before it. That’s what had made women so attached. At the end, it became a conventional romantic comedy.”

The show questions the attitude of society when it comes to marriage and the urgency with which it impose companionship but somehow, the show could not deliver the point. The final season ended with Big crossing the Atlantic to confess his love to Carrie.

“I didn’t break those last episodes. If you’re empowering other people to write and produce your show. . .at a certain point, you’ve got to let them follow their vision,” said Star, who wrote the last Sex and the City episode for the second season.

Explaining his own frustration like many viewers over show’s ending, Star pointed out that “unless you’re there to write every episode, you’re not going to get the ending you want.”

Sex and the City is an American sitcom comprising of 94 episodes. Broadcasted from 1998 till 2004, the show is based on Candace Bushnell’s book with the same title. It explores the lives of four women, their bonding with each other, their relationships and discuss multiple issues like sexuality, promiscuity, femininity and many other.
